Pomona, CA – February 26, 2009 – Helios Tech showcased its latest
2009 version at the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Personnel Institute in Pomona here today amidst much anticipation
from school districts. The
Personnel Institute organized by ACSA every year attracts senior HR administrators
from school districts.
Participants welcomed the new Helios version that promises a paperless
office complete with document scanning and management module. The module enables
schools to attach paper documents such as transcripts, credentials, and anything
else to employee profiles. Users can then search and access these documents quickly
and easily based on document name, number, type or date.
One of the main focus of Helios 2009 is Quality of Education Investment Act (QEIA)
that promises significant funding for charter schools. Commencing in 2008-09, the
first full year of funding, $402 million is available. Kindergarten and grades one
to three will receive $500 per pupil; grades four to eight will receive $900 per
pupil; and grades nine to twelve will receive $1,000 per pupil.
QEIA poses a few monitoring requirements on schools. Primarily, each teacher must
receive an average of 40 hours of professional development per year and at least
1/3 of the teachers and paraprofessionals must receive PD in each of the first three
years of QEIA funding. Helios 2009 has new screens and reports that help school
districts track these professional development requirements. Another monitoring
component of QEIA is the Teacher Experience Index. Helios 2009 has built-in reports
for calculating and tracking Teacher Experience Index by school and grade level.
The Time Center module is another anticipated feature of 2009. It lets schools track
employee vacation and sick time and automatically accrues vacation and sick days
as well as calculates vacation and sick time balances. With the addition of these
latest modules, Helios continues to fulfill its vision of providing schools with
the right tools to tackle data management and compliance as well as foster improvement.
Several schools and universities are benefiting from Helios in areas ranging from
HR management to online teacher evaluations and from generating critical reports
to maintaining a paperless system. Sharing current budget concerns, Helios Tech
has also extended its program of offering solutions at a low cost. This is an added
incentive on top of the 65%-75% time savings that schools using Helios get.
