School districts can get on a cost-free pilot program to cut their time to do
compliance reporting, improve teaching and make better decisions
Los Angeles, CA – September 28, 2007 – A two-day workshop organized by the Los Angeles
County Office of Education (LACOE) ended here today and saw useful presentations
by the California Department of Education and LACOE on better managing compliance
issues school districts face today.
Another prominent presenter was Helios Tech, a group of K-12 professionals and administrators,
which is running a cost-free pilot program for Helios, its flagship solution to
K-12 compliance reporting and data-driven decision-making. Karen Ryback, consultant-in-charge
at LACOE, main organizer and who is one of the key persons at LACOE in charge of
compliance, NCLB and Title I programs, introduced the group noting that she took
a close peek at Helios. She praised highly the efforts of the team in creating a
solution for NCLB and highly qualified teacher assessment.
K-12 administrators are increasingly turning to data-driven technology systems to
tackle the compliance and management problems they face. For example, Todd McIntire,
former technology director of a New York City school district, integrated his district’s
parallel systems and fine tuned professional development programs with the resulting
data. Teachers’ technical abilities and quality of their instruction improved as
a result.
“When you can click away at easy to access, online information, there is no limit
on what you can use it for, from making strong grant applications to hiring in the
right areas to using it as a tool for salary negotiations,” exclaims Yash Sharman,
lead Helios developer. Even principals
can have easy access to the critical information they need to plan assignments.
As part of a focus group initiative, quite a few prominent administrators have closely
looked at Helios and helped refine it. Vivian Ekchian, Deputy Chief HR Officer,
LA Unified School District feels Helios provides great value for school districts
and their HR departments.
Helios Tech will also present at the annual conference of Credential Counselors
and Analysts of California (CCAC), one of the largest gatherings of K-12 administrators
in California. The event will be held in Sacramento from October 9 through 12 where
over 2,000 participants from school districts all over California would assemble.
